Sunny and cold mornings in winter are the best time to take long walks in the forest. This roebuck (male deer) lay perfectly still. There was no wind, so I inched my way forward until I got this view of him. Notice the velvety horns. This protective coating is rich with nutrients and protects the new horns that grow yearly.
